Seashells Shri Ganesha

A festival card with Shri Ganesha motif made using seashells

Lord Ganesha is a cute and friendly deity. Artists love to design him. Ganesha Chaturthi is a special festival that is connected with Swadeshi movement concept. Lokamanya Tilakji used Ganesh Chaturthi as a weapon to gather Bharatiyas together and to encourage them to unite for freedom. Swadeshi (domestic) products including clothing were encouraged to use to strengthened domestic economy. The Swadeshi movement plays a significant role in reviving of the traditional textiles industry of India.

At Varnatantu, we have designed a motif with Lord Ganesha’s face on the occasion of this special festival. This eco-friendly motif is made in support of eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.

This Shri Ganesha motif is created using seashells. All the shells used are with holes for sewing. The shell that makes the tusk is very different than the usual ones. It is a pipe like shell I collected at Malpe beach, Udupi. This motif can be used to embellish on some kinds of jewellery, handbags, belts, etc.
